Frost in attic rafters.
A few years ago we had a lot of frost and a company came in and charged us 250 to spray the exhaust fan and duct to stop leakage.
When the moisture gets into the attic it condenses on the roof.
During winter conditions attic frost is a problem associated with attic bypasses.
Some of it can cross the first rafter there but it doesn t seem to make it across the second rafter.
What causes this frost.
Attic insulation is in the floor of the attic rather than the roof.

Water vapor is migrating upward and eventually filtering into the attic.

Near the ridge the frost free area extends over the garage a bit because warm air rises and it ends up near the ridge.

Frost accumulates in attics when moisture laden air from the house gets up there when it s cold.
Notice though that there is some migration.
The worst frost was on the other side though.
What s happening is that the rafters keep the warm air from migrating much.
What you re looking at is evidence of excessive moisture in your house.
As seniors with medical conditions we are worried about mould.

When the outside temperature rises again the frost thaws water collects and can leak into.
